Abington, VA July 5, 2017 - While many are enjoying barbecues, fireworks, and other traditional festivities surrounding the 4th of July, Hunter Baize and the No 13 team for Martin-McClure Racing are regrouping following a last-lap, late-race accident at Berlin Raceway which relegated Baize to an 11th place finish.
Baize, who qualified for the Stars and Stripes 150 in the 9th position quickly worked his way through the field, taking the lead on lap 16 and leading 104 out of the 150 laps in the event. With lead at times was 4 seconds over his second place contender. Late in the race, following a red flag period, Baize was poised to continue his domination but suffered a mechanical issue that sent him to the middle of the field where he ultimately finished in 11th position.
Although disappointed, the MMR crew quickly developed a plan of attack and is preparing diligently for the next race on the calendar. Spirits are high as the team prepares for the rest of the season and for the next opportunity to showcase Baize's talent and the team's equipment.
Baize is currently in 4th position in season long points standings.
"I am incredibly proud of our MMR team. Our guys give their all each and every race and everyday at the shop, too. At the track, Hunter is the definition of professionalism. He is calm and steady through difficult times and, this week, through unspeakable heartbreak.
We have high standards for our MMR team, we pride ourselves on putting fast cars on the track with drivers capable of not only getting the job done, but drivers who carry themselves proudly and professionally on one of the biggest stages in auto racing.
I look forward to our next race and for our next opportunity to showcase everything we've worked so hard to build at MMR."
"After dominating much of the race, it's heartbreaking not to get the finish that reflects how good we were. Our whole team was one unit, our hard work paid off in Hunter's speed and comfort behind the wheel. While we've been consistent all season, our performance this race was outstanding. You couldn't help but notice everything that we've worked for.
I'm so proud we were able to get Hunter his first laps leading the field in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and I look forward to us helping him secure his first win in the series soon."
"Berlin was almost everything we've been building towards this year. Although with how the race ended it has been hard for me to see the positives, I'm trying to. Matt and the whole MMR crew did a fantastic job. I'm so proud of this team. We'll go into Thompson with the same dedication and preparation that we took into Berlin, and hope for a similar race with a different ending."
